A rally is a series of price increases in shares, indices, or bonds over a short period on the stock market. A considerable boost in demand from a rise in investment generally stokes a rally, and they often follow a period of flat or downward growth

Key (light bulb).
If there's one constant in the stock market, it's change. Prices move up and down daily, sometimes calmly, other times violently. This movement is called market volatility, and while it often sparks fear, it's actually a normal and vital part of how markets function. Volatility isn't always a bad thing

Billy Joel's "custom shop" refers to his motorcycle business, 20th Century Cycles, located in Oyster Bay, Long Island, which showcased his personal collection of restored and customized vintage bikes but closed in late 2025 due to the singer's health issues, including a brain disorder diagnosis, leading to an auction of his collection. The shop focused on recreating classic 1930s-1960s motorcycle aesthetics, blending vintage looks with modern performance, and served as a public space for his passion project, not a commercial repair shop.
Key Details about 20th Century Cycles:
• Purpose: To house, maintain, and display Billy Joel's extensive collection of custom and restored motorcycles, and to share his passion for classic bike design with the public for free.
• Collection: Included over 75 bikes, modified to have vintage looks but modern performance, featuring brands like Harley-Davidson, Triumph, and Indian.
• Focus: Recreating the "lost aesthetic" of mid-20th-century motorcycles, often with modern tech hidden inside.
• Closure: The shop closed in September 2025 as Joel decided to move closer to South Florida and faced health challenges, including Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus.
• Auction: His collection was slated for auction later in 2025 following the shop's closure.
In summary, it was a passion project and museum for his bikes, not a traditional service or retail custom shop, and it concluded its operations in 2025.

"Regular fluctuating market trade" refers to the normal, continuous changes in the prices of financial assets like stocks, bonds, and commodities. These price movements are a fundamental and healthy aspect of how markets function, driven primarily by supply and demand.
Key Concepts
• Volatility: This is the technical term for how much and how quickly prices move. High volatility means sharp, rapid price swings, while low volatility means steadier, more gradual movements.
• Supply and Demand: The core driver of fluctuation. When more investors want to buy a stock (high demand) than sell it (low supply), the price goes up. Conversely, when more people want to sell, the price falls.
• Price Discovery: Fluctuations are how the market processes new information to determine the fair value of an asset.
Factors Causing Fluctuations
Market prices are influenced by a diverse range of factors:
• Economic Data: Reports on inflation, interest rates, employment numbers, and GDP growth shape investor expectations and trigger market reactions.
• Company Performance: News such as earnings reports, new product launches, or corporate scandals can cause the price of an individual company's stock to rise or fall.
• Geopolitical Events: Wars, elections, or trade tensions create uncertainty, leading investors to reallocate capital and causing broad market swings.
• Investor Sentiment: Human emotions like fear and greed play a significant role in short-term volatility, often leading to "herd behavior" and panic buying or selling that can amplify price movements.
• Algorithmic Trading: High-frequency trading systems can also amplify market swings by executing large trades in milliseconds based on price shifts.
Investor Strategies
For investors, regular market fluctuation is a given. Effective strategies for navigating it include:
• Maintaining a Long-Term Perspective: Long-term investors often ignore short-term volatility and focus on their overall financial goals, as historically, markets tend to recover from downturns and provide positive returns over extended periods.
• Diversification: Spreading investments across different assets (stocks, bonds, commodities) helps manage risk, so a downturn in one area doesn't ruin the entire portfolio.
• Dollar-Cost Averaging: Investing a consistent amount of money at regular intervals (e.g., monthly) regardless of market conditions. This allows investors to buy more shares when prices are low and fewer when prices are high, averaging the cost over time.
• Using Risk Management: Active traders might use tools like stop-loss orders to limit potential losses in a highly volatile market.

Some Canadian travelers have revealed that they have been met with "bullying behavior" from Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officials when returning to their home country. They even claim that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers are much friendlier despite recent controversies. Here are more details on the preclearance expansion for Canadians and their growing concerns about the Canadian border.
The United States and Canada have announced that preclearance travel screening will expand this year, making it easier for more Canadians to enter the U.S. This comes after previous "threats" to end it by the U.S. Ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra. However, while all eyes have recently been on the "unwelcoming" U.S. border, a lot of Canadians complain that there is actually "more hassle" crossing back into Canada these days.
On Sunday (Jan. 11), the U.S. and Canada announced that they will be proceeding with two preclearance travel screening projects this year. Preclearance operations will finally begin at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport by spring 2026, after construction of the facility was completed in late December 2025.
They will also be working on the pilot preclearance implementation at Cannon Corners, N.Y., on the border with Quebec (80 kilometers south of Montreal). It was initially announced to open last year. The CBSA explained that it was delayed as they were still ironing out some revisions to relevant policies and minor infrastructure work
Canadians can save significant time with preclearance travel screening, potentially hours, depending on the congestion in the U.S. port of entry. By processing their CBP checks in Canada, they can arrive in the U.S. like domestic travelers—no more long lines and smoother tight connections. However, long waits are still common at busy Canadian airports.
Current U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance Operations In Canada
• Calgary International Airport
• Edmonton International Airport
• Halifax Stanfield International Airport
• Montréal–Trudeau International Airport
• Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport
• Toronto Pearson International Airport
• Vancouver International Airport
• Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport
• Sea: Prince Rupert Alaska Marine Highway System Ferry Terminal
• Rail "pre-inspections" with plans to expand to full preclearance: Pacific Central Station in Vancouver, British Columbia (Amtrak Cascades trains to Seattle and Portland, Oregon)
Late last year, U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra previously suggested that the CBP was "taking a look" at preclearance as Canadian travel to the U.S. continues to decrease. It was viewed as a threat to end the advanced travel screening after Hoekstra stated, "We're not sure we can make the numbers work anymore … pre-clearance is something that is done at the expense of the U.S. government. We paid for it."
The day before the preclearance expansions were announced, a Canadian traveler posted on Reddit about experiencing "more hassle" whenever they crossed back into Canada than when entering the U.S. The sentiment resonated with many other travelers, with one saying that they find CBSA to be the "rudest" and the CBP to be the "friendliest." Someone even shared that they felt bullied, leading them to file a complaint.
The traveler credited the CBSA for at least taking their complaint seriously. They said their crossing "immediately improved" when they wrote in the CBSA feedback form that the officers "embarrass the whole country when they act like that." These encounters at the Canada border are unfortunately not new.
Back in 2018, CBSA was reported to have had more than 105 "founded" cases of complaints of officer misconduct. That was 12% of the 875 complaints between 2017 and 2018 alone. Racism and rudeness were included in the allegations.
Americans also agree with the current observations, with some describing the Canadian border as more "thorough." However, many travelers understand that the CBSA officers are just concerned about things like illegal items from the U.S. possibly getting into Canada. It is also worth noting that Canada's borders continue to face various challenges due to outdated security systems.

PUBLIC SAFETY
Deaths at Calgary's Prince's Island Park have involved both criminal incidents, like a violent assault in 2022, and non-suspicious discoveries, such as a body found in the lagoon in 2013, with other memorials suggesting past tragedies like a potential miscarriage or homelessness, creating a mix of criminal and accidental/unexplained fatalities reported in local news over the years.
Reported Incidents:
• 2022 Attack: Police investigated a violent assault on a woman in the park, which occurred shortly after a separate fatal attack in the Beltline, though police didn't link the two events.
• 2013 Body Discovery: A passerby found a body in the park's lagoon; police determined it wasn't a homicide but likely an accident or suicide.
• 2013 Missing Person: Police appealed for tips after a man was found deceased in the lagoon area, with earlier investigations focusing on his disappearance.
• Recent Memorials: Social media discussions in 2025 noted heartfelt memorials, possibly related to a miscarriage or homelessness, suggesting personal tragedies in the park, though not recent criminal acts.
Context:
• While serious incidents, including attacks, have occurred, police have also investigated non-criminal deaths, highlighting the park's dual role as a recreational spot and a location where vulnerable individuals may face hardship.
• Public safety concerns, particularly regarding violent incidents and homelessness, have prompted increased police patrols and community safety discussions around the park.
